For the reference of any non-skaters out there… There are a few different types of events. Solo dances are performed as set steps to classical music, following traditional dance timing and skating style. Everyone competes with the same steps and music to be judged on artistic impression and technical execution. Free dances are routines containing skating elements to a music of the skaters choice – everyone’s routines are different. Free routines are very similar to free dances, however they consist of mainly jumps and spins as well as skating elements. Quartets are group routines made up of four skaters!
